One Date, Three Stories

16th September 2011 ...

As the title suggests, I will begin the story one by one
First, 5 years ago on this date,
I flew all the way from Kuching
to Kuala Lumpur, after being accepted by MAS
into the Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer
program at Subang.
Five years of endurance, perseverance, strong willpower
have brought me thus far;
I am one
stop from establishing as a LAE.
I have just obtained my LWTR
(License Without Type Rating)
from DCA last month ...
Good thing is, my License coverage
will come in triplets,
Electrical, Instruments and Radio (Cat B2)
Next, to apply for my QA Company Approval!
Here I am coming, QA~

16th September 2011 ...
There is this love story I have just read.
A handsome young man, called Malaya
celebrated his birthday lavishly at 31st August 1957.
Across the South China Sea,
he spotted a beautiful Borneo girl.
He courted her, exchanged vows and got married
on 16th September 1963 in a low-key ceremony.
So, every year, a huge party is thrown
for her husband's birthday, but,
why not his wife?
Well, husbands arent good at remembering
dates, are they?

Greeting! How are you, dear Journals? It has been a long time since I last visited you. Days by days, months by months, many have changed tremendously; not to mention new thing I have gotten, but something I have lost as well ... It is September now, 2011, exactly 5 years of training in the field of aviation. Recall the headline "My Aims" in The Journals? My first target is to " ... Establish as a successful LAE by 2011 ... " Timeline is nearing soon, without realizing. I still harbor and uphold my perseverance and strong will power to achieve my dream, most probably early next year. Guys, do keep me in your prayer. Remind me of my targets and dreams if I ever slack off sometimes!

9M-MMK was the last aircraft I did in Subang before I am officially transferred to Aircraft Maintenance Unit (AMU) in KLIA by this coming October. The difference between Subang, Aircraft Overhaul Department (AOD) with AMU is, in Subang, we do heavy maintenance with complete overhaul while in KLIA, we do lighter check package, more on to defect rectification. In AMU, it is shorter turn-around time, shorter aircraft downtime - everything is very timely-controlled. Dad called me yesterday, telling how "beautiful" MMK is; internally "healthy" and externally "pleasing"! Shortly after taking-off from Subang, MMK goes into the sky with first revenue flight to Kuching, my hometown. So, what did I do for this aircraft that I can remember deeply? Hmmm, I crawled into the main tank for Fuel Compensator Unit replacement, most of the inspection and rectification of defects in APU were covered by myself with my colleagues, trouble-shooting of the Fuel Quantity Indicator internal lighting with Abg TShah, trouble-shooting of Inertial reference System with Abg Farid, etc. It was an awesome experience working in Line 6, with helpful LAEs, Technician and Junior Technicians. Definitely I will miss Subang after this ...

Grandma celebrated her 95th birthday on the 20th of August, a week earlier of her actual birthday. Few days later, on the 25the August, 1130pm at night, she passed away peacefully of aging. According to my Uncle, Grandma didnt suffer much during her last hour; she was complaining of backache in the morning, by the afternoon, she had a fever, and then by 1130pm, she breathed her last breath. Rest in peace, Grandma. You'll be dearly missed from us! Your words, your love, your "cuteness" and your spirit will be with us deep in our heart ...

This has to be one of the greatest match of all time between Manchester United vs Arsenal. In front of eighty thousand of spectators, the Red Devils ran riot thrashing The Gunner by 8 goals to 2. Rooney hit hat-trick, Ashley Young hit a brace; very entertaining, full of excitement; I really enjoyed the game. Haha ... Who wouldn't be shocked to see such a scoreline? It is Arsenal man, you are playing with. Haha :)

See, yes, it is for real! The sacred RED BOOK is finally here after much of tussle and hassle. This is my Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License issued by The Department of Civil Aviation of Malaysia (DCA). I am qualified for Category B2 (Avionics). The Red Book was issued to us on the 17th of August, phew, such a relief after waiting for close to a year for me. My License Number is E 3728. Nice number huh? Hit 20 points! So, I am the 3728th people in Malaysia who hold this Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License. I am proud, I shall live up to its legacy. This will be a stepping stone for me to apply for my B737-400 Company Approval in MAS in future. At the moment, I cant certify for MAS aircraft yet until I have gotten the Company Approval issued by MAS Quality Assurance Department. It is time to brush up my skill and knowledge now. After my Departmental Visit in October, things will get serious! Time is catching up; I know a lot of people around are looking on me, especially my Dad and Virtualmystic ...

Moon Cake Festival is coming - on the 12th of September, it is the 15th day of Eighth month in Lunar Calendar. My Uncle gave me this Tiramisu Moon Cake from Starbucks; first of this kind I have seen. Haha ... Yummy :)

My Mom gave me two hard boiled eggs for my birthday, according to the Chinese Lunar Calendar. My actual birthday falls on the 24th September. Hey, mark in down into your calendar. Remember to send me a present ya? Haha :)

My Dear Daddy

He will drive me to school everyday without being late even though he is occupied with his shift work in the airport. Despite the hassle, the rush, and the stress of being caught in the traffic jam, for the last 13 years, he never breathes any words of complaint. I promised myself; by the end of every year, without fail, I will ensure he will be invited for my school's prize giving ceremony. As he looked as I stood up on the stage to receive my academic trophy, he smiled and cheered for me from below. He would take leave on that particular day, put on his best dress. He knew his hard-work and sacrifices had paid off well ...

We share the laughter and passion together while watching football on TV. Ironically, we do not support the same teams; indeed our teams are bitter rivals of all time. He cheers for Arsenal while I sing Glory Glory Manchester United! No matter what the outcome of the match for our teams, we toss the Beers and cheer for the time we have ...

Daddy,

He is the one who introduced me to Aviation ever since I was a little kid. He taught me "A for Aeroplane", unlike most other parents will teach their children, "A for Apple". Occasionally in the evening, whenever he was not working, he would drive me in his creamy white Toyota car to the airport. He would park his car beside the road, overlooking the long runway, holding me tight around his broad arms, whispering softly into my ears, "Son, this is an aeroplane, and this is where your destiny begins!". The joy of seeing the aeroplane took off with its wheels departing from the ground was overwhelming, even though it was just a split moment. As I grew up, I developed deep interest in aeroplane, as if there was a strong bond and fondness between us ...

Daddy,

You work hard, day and night,
in rain nor under the sun,
so that, we can have hot meals
three times a day on the table,
so that, we can have a shed under the roof

Saturday, 12th of March 2011 was Che Azahar's big day. On that eventful afternoon, he tied the knots with his fiancee, taking their oath to love each other for the rest of life in front of hundreds of friends and relatives. Che Azahar, my colleague and my batch mate, was all excited and in high spirit as we took turn to take photos with the bride and groom. The wedding reception was held in Gombak, so, Wen Jie, Nicholas and I headed down by lunch hour. Selamat Pengantin Baru, Che! May you live happily with your loved one!

Pre-CNY Dinner in Klang

Chinese New Year is all about gathering with family, friends and the loved ones. Ever since we were assigned to different lines for our practical, we rarely have time to catch up with each other on a meal. Therefore, as Chinese New Year is just around the corner, we decided to call for a dinner; away from PJ and headed toward Klang for a fresh, tasty Seafood Dinner. One and a half hour drive plus a minor traffic congestion here and there, we finally reached the Klang Family Seafood Restaurant by 9pm. Off, we go ...

There were 11 of us, ordering humongous 14 dishes,
namely a few; Singapore Bee Hoon, Claypot Red Wine Chicken,

Ouch, it was a lot to eat; Wen Jie was afraid we could not eat enough,
so he kept putting down orders.
Haha :)

Finally, it was the symbolic Yee Sang to kick off the New Year!

A Day at Workplace ...

Early in the morning, we were dispatching a B737-400, with registration 9M-MMB after completing an A4 Check with AD/SB Modification. Initial supposedly 3 days check has been prolonged due to unforeseen reason, however, by the end of the day, each of us was glad as the aircraft soared high into the sky in a safe and soundly manner.

Phew~ Besides the A4 check packages, one of the major tasks that I had involved was the replacement of the Leading Edge Flaps and Slats Proximity Sensors. Basically, these switches provide positional indication to the pilots in the cockpit, whether, the Flaps/Slats are in the extend/retract position. Total of 8 sensors at each side of the wing were removed and replaced with new S/N complying with the AD/SB instruction. It was a first time experience for me; rather tough due to limited access area, but, eventually I managed to get the hang of it with some helps from my fellow colleagues. I was very grateful to have the opportunity to do this task, as, from what I heard through my Technician, the next aircraft coming in for similar check will not be doing this modification again due to time constraint. This task has been withdrawn from the check packages. Haha :)

New Livery

Decided to change The Journals' Headline
for something indifferent
Instead of the previous B777 Heliconia,
am using the B737-800 New Livery now!
Wanna something fresh to kick off for the year of 2011!
From now onward, beginning with 9M-MXA,
the new generation of B737 purchased by MAS
will be painted in this new colors design,
yet still retaining the old colors of red, blue and white.
I am doing this aircraft type now,
hopefully, everything will be smooth and fine.
Cross my fingers and pray hard!

Now, I dare you to fly ...

Hello guys, I'm back! It has been such a long time since I wrote in The Journals. Phew~ Somehow or rather, I found out it is kinda hard to start a piece of writing, what to say to come out with something lengthy as before? Hmm, is that a sign of language rusty of me? To blast off, that's why I opt for something I am more familiar with, comfortable with ... My field of study, yeah. Aviation.

If you have been watching TV or read newspapers 2 days back, I bet you wont miss out this. Everyone is talking about it from mouth to mouth, even in Facebook; it has been a hot-cake discussion. Haha. On the 10th of January 2011, just days into the New Year 2011, the whole Malaysians were shocked to learn that an aircraft had crashed landed on the runway threshold prior to landing at Kuching International Airport. It was Flight AK 5218, which bear a tail mark registration of 9M-AHH from Air Asia.

The incident occurred at night, in the midst of heavy rain and ferocious wind at the airport. Flight AK 5218, an Airbus 320 was believed to have crash-landed and skidded off runway to the right before coming to halt on the pavement beside runway. As a result, the airport's operation was closed for 1 day, causing up to 80 flights to be disrupted especially departing and arrival B737-400 flights by MAS. A comparatively smaller aircrafts, ATR-72 operated by MASWings were more and less affected. It was not until 2000 hours the next day, the airport's operation resumed back to normal.

It was indeed something unusual for Malaysians, considering the numbers of serious incident involving civil aircraft is so much lower in our country. Yeah, thumb up to all the Engineers and Pilots who take so much care of the aircraft and its passengers! The main cause of the mishap is however still unclear, but, according to early reports, it may be due to bad weather conditions at the time of landing. A sudden and strong cross-wind may blow the aircraft to the right, plus, wet and watery runway contribute to a phenomenon called "aqua-planing"; thus the aircraft skidded off the runway. The actual cause of the incident will be revealed only after completion of thorough investigation. For more information, click here.

A friend of mine sent me some real-time photos taken from actual scene of Kuching International Airport. Here a glimpse of what had happened! From my point of view, as a person who works in the aviation industry, I definitely do not hope such incident will repeat itself again. Imagine if this aircraft skidded off runway, suffered severe damage and caught fire. What would happen to the passengers on-board? You wont want to know ... Thanks God, all the 129 people on board escaped safely without any critical injury. Four were admitted to medical assistance, but later were released after check-up. Hope it will not occur again, otherwise people will have trauma boarding on a flight! Haha :)

It has been some time since ...

Woah. It has been ages since I last wrote on The Journals. Dated to the last post, it was way back in June. So, where do you stop? Few months ago, your truthfully had been busy with lotsa stuffs, particularly with studies. Courses and courses came lining up in front of your door-step, beginning with Basic Digital Avionics (BDA) Phase 1 for 2 weeks, Phase 2 for a week, followed by B737-400 Type Courses. Haha. Yet, the B737-400 Type Course stretched as long as 6 phases for a duration of 2 and a half months. Phew~ Things never stop there as I resume my Basic License Oral Assessments, and now, I am currently waiting for my final Oral, which is, the most important; the Aviation Legislation of Malaysia. All the Regulations numbers, Airworthiness Notices have been my companion since the past week. Haha ... My scheduled date for assessment will be on the 16th of November, roughly 2 weeks from now. Ouch~ Go, go, go Keith!

24th of September? Sounds familiar? No? Yup, it is your truthfully big day; his birthday anniversary. A year older, a year wiser and a year stronger, ya? Definitely. My colleagues bought me a Birthday Cake; Green Tea with Red Bean Cake. Woah, that's my first time knowing of such a cake actually exists! Haha. Thanks to my besties out there, Wen Jie, Daniel and Ewin for being so thoughtful ... And of course, Auntie Jenny, for her wonderful gift.

a famous well known Taiwanese Dessert Shop in SS15.

This coming Monday, 1st of November will mark a milestone in the history of MAS, as the first ever wholly-owned aircraft will arrive and land in Malaysia for its voyage flight. Dressed in its new livery colors of 1 MH, I present to you, the new B737-800, with registration 9M-MXA. Woah! New aircraft, new cabin interior and new hopes, MAS certainly want to bring the best for all of us out there; to reach the unreachable and to strengthen its dominance as the prominent figure in the eyes of the Airliners. Let's wish MAS to soar higher in the years to come! :)

9M-MXA was carrying out a flight test in Seattle,
the land of Boeing, Co.

Thankfully, I managed to get through all phases of my B737-400 Type Course; it will be my stepping stone to further acquire my B737-800 Type in the future. Main target for this year of 2010 has to be to obtain my Basic License Without Type Rating (LWTR) from the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) Malaysia. Am currently working on an older version of B737-200, known as the Jurassic. Being an older version of aircraft, age of more than 30 years old, it is all back to basic principle and operation. Instead of high-bypass CFM56 Engines, the -200 is fitted with low-bypass JT8D engines. Look at these engines with the Clampshell-type Thrust Reversers. How magnificent! More exposure, more experience and more hands-on, that's are what I need most in order to improve myself; to establish as an Licensed Aircraft Engineer by the year of 2011. Set the aim, and charge! :)

A spontaneous unplanned trip turned out to be one of the craziest trip ever. Despite the last minute planning, heated-up arguments and unfavorable decision, we strolled through firmly with a plan which satisfied everyone. This is our very first outing as a group; being 4 years together in training. TAME 71 set out to conquer Hutan Simpan Taman Lipur, Sungai Kanching, Kuala Lumpur. Five cars, 22 of us, ventured through the hassle of city life to a step closer to mother nature for a much-needed break after Basic Digital Avionics (BDA) examination on Monday. The journey from Shah Alam to Sungai Kanching took us 45 minutes drive. It was indeed a great unforgettable experience with laughter and joy. BBQ, Waterfall Swimming and Hill Trekking were parts of our half-day activity in Sungai Kanching. It is rare to hang out together as a big group, considering all of us have their own plan during holiday. Therefore, after BDA, before our B737-400 Type Course begins on this coming Thursday, we decided to chill out with fellow batch mates. Something memorable for TAME 71 to reflect back in future, ya? Haha ...

Triangle Dumpling

This morning, my room-mate, Wei Liang gave me a "Bak-Zhang" or commonly known as Zhong Zi in Mandarin. His father came down to KL for this weekend, and for the first time, I had a taste of Penang's Zhong Zi. Somehow, it tastes different and unique with flavor of its own. DuanWu Festival which falls on the fifth day of fifth month in the Chinese Lunar calendar is celebrated by the Chinese nationwide in remembrance of Quan Yu, the famous Chinese scholar who served the King of Chu. Dad has upgraded home ASTRO to HD, specially purposed just for this exhilarating event. Tried to clear my balance 12days leave, yet, there are still 8 more days after this one week off. Well, guess it will just be burnt off, ~Poofff~ Yeap, I am back to Kuching. Home Sweet Home!

Last night, flights were quite full as holiday season has just begun. Parents are taking children for holiday, people are traveling as airliners offer various discounts and fares during the summer. I was in the Operation Dispatch Control (ODC) Office for jump-seat application. To my surprise, there were already two applicants for the next flight's jump seats. The last flight, chances to get a jump seat was slim, as it was three crews flight. Normally, they don't allow outsider into the cockpit besides the pilots, because, the Cadet Pilot could be having his practical and assessment with the seniors. My thought was preparing to stay overnight in KLIA; I stared outside the windows and I saw a bunch of hyper-active reckless kids roaming around. Damn, it wont be a silent and peaceful night in KLIA with these kids around. How could I ever sleep with such a high decibel of "noise pollution" here?

I sat in the ODC canteen, waiting for my friend, Abg Nizam from ODC to call me. He was trying to help me to persuade the pilots to approve my Jump Seat. Not too long after, he called me, "Keith, ada jump seat untuk MH2532, you nak ke tak?" Woah, I screamed in my heart with joy and gratitude. "Nak, nak, I datang sekarang!" To my information, one of the applicants decided to pull back her jump seat application last minute, so I just managed to slot into her place. Yeah, I am going home :)

So, MH2532, with registration of 9M-MML in bay A7, here I come. On board, I met another License Aircraft Engineer (LAE) from KLIA Aircraft Maintenance Unit (AMU) . He is senior for 10 years. So, co-incidentally, we were asking for jump seat as well. There we go. He is an experienced LAE for Airframe and Engine (A&C) who involved in the repair of 9M-Mike Mike Romeo who was stranded in Kuching Airport back in few months ago. He has the opportunity to work along the Boeing experts on Mike-Mike-Romeo. Woah ... We chatted during the flight 'bout our working environment both in Subang and KLIA. According to him, Abg Azahar was on weekend trip to visit his wife, who is a Sarawakian and at the same time to attend a wedding ceremony in Kuching. Lolz :)

Initial supposed jump seat was upgraded to business class seat
since there were two empty seats due to last minute passengers' withdrawal.
Woah, that's so cool! Big spacious comfy seat,
delicious audacious meals with 5 Stars Service from Cabin Crews,
I was indeed felt more than just MH - Malaysian Hospitality!
The Cabin Crew even addressed you by your name,
how sweet and privileged you will feel!

Hey there,
Woah, it has been almost a month since I last wrote here. Never did I abandon The Journals for more than 2 weeks, what to say, almost a month. Over the months, world is still spinning, days had gone by in a flash of time. Yeah, we saw Lee Chong Wei was beaten tamely by Lin Dan in Thomas Cup semi-final in Malaysia. Chelsea won the EPL title with merely a point ahead of ManUtd. And recently, just last week, a B737-800 had crashed-landed in Bajpe Airport, killing 150 over passengers with only few survivors. Early investigation has revealed the aircraft was suffering from aqua-planning; it failed to stop in time, overshot runway, crash and then burn to catch fire. Another mishap in the aviation industry ...

Currently, I am still on the hangar floor; doing practical and working on a B737-400 aircraft from India for a C-Check. This is my third aircraft from Line 4, and I have to say, I have seen and learned bit by bit everyday. Standard maintenance practices, visual inspection skills, Operational Test, just to name a few. Theoretical in class definitely will not be able to expose me to such skill and experience. Now, at least, I will be able to relate, put the puzzle pieces together from what I have learned in class. I found out one thing 'bout me. I am not sure whether it happens on others, but, I must admit, I find difficulties to work properly when someone is keeping a sharp eye on me. I felt the pressure of being watched sometimes. Even a simple task which I am familiar with, I can still grumble and mess up thing. Screw me! Get rip of this! Maybe, I should keep calm and relax; think carefully and not just do blindly ...

Last month Mother's Day, I was back in Kuching for 3days. Bought Mum a Hush Puppies Shirt. She just loves Hush Puppies' franchise. Just a simple gift for her as a token of appreciation. Mum, you've been the best Mum, and I love you, Mum! Went out for dinner, and guess what, we couldn't find any place. All were fully booked. After the third tries to different shops, we finally settled down for a Mother's Day dinner.

Next week, I am applying for a week off; will be flying back to Kuching. Before that, am going for another four task assessments. Some of my senior colleagues have gotten their Red Book License from the DCA; and this really encourages and motivates me to push myself toward obtaining my basic License. So far, assessment has been going fine, but, there are still plenty of subjects to sum up. Of all these, tough subjects are waiting; Autopilot, Auto-throttle, Material Hardware ... Furthermore, third week of June, am attending three months stint of courses, Basic Digital Avionics (BDA) and B737-400 Type Course. Therefore, a holiday is most welcomed; after all, I need to clear off my balance leave of 12 days out of 16 before it expires in the month of September. Probably, a retreat trip to the outskirt will do. Initially, Dad was planning for an oversea trip with me, but, nevertheless, it will a school holiday season with Hari Gawai in Sarawak, so, he just couldn't take any leave. Oh well ...

Just a little update from me,

Hello, I'm back, after missing in action for the past few weeks. For the last two weekends, Dad and sis were here in KL, and I had a great jovial time spending with them in Malaysia Airlines' Academy (MAA). Ouch, how much I miss the air-conditioner and MAA's super softy comfortable bed. Haha :)

Currently still working in Line 4 Hangar 1 on a Boeing 737-300. Learning is fun here; everyone is friendly and unselfishly assisting each other. I have some opportunity to hand on plenty of maintenance tasks that I have never done before. Some were rather complicated, some were simple, but most importantly, I am learning bit by bit. Comparing to other apprentices, they are far more experienced than us. Indeed, I am still trying to catch up with everything even though I have been on the hangar floor since December 2009. Lolz :)

Had my lunch with my friends in METC this afternoon. It has been ages ago since we sat down together on the same table. Daniel and Nicholas drove us to Taman Paramount for the well-known famous Roasted Duck Rice from Sunshine Restaurant. This dish really reminiscing my memory back when I had Beijing Duck in Beijing. Haha ... 8 of us, 2 ducks were sacrificed on the plate! Woah ...

Am going out for a yam-cha session with
my friend and his Dad now. See ya around ...

Weather nowadays is unpredictable; one day, it can be burning hot and dry, the other, it can be just cloudy and as if a thunderstorm will strike sooner. So, I thought it will be wiser to have something more healthier, to keep ourselves fit and strong. Just a moment ago, while I was having dinner with my friend, Nic, I came across this Chinese Pharmaceutical Shop in Kota Damansara which sells some herb tea. Without hesitating, I grabbed them. A 500ml bottle eventually cost me an awesome RM2.50. Woah :)

Ching Shan Yuen

A road trip of half an hour will take you to this place; Ching San Yuen also known as Green Mountain Temple at Muara Tebas Village, Kuching. The temple has been patronized by both locals and tourists, especially the Buddhists. The temple was strategically constructed atop of the hill, overseeing the wide open South China Sea, probably maximizing the ideal of Feng Shui. Surrounded by the Malay kampung, this place has grown prosperous and rich as more people are visiting the temple complex, thus slowly developing into one of the prominent tourist attraction in Kuching. Ching Shan has existed more than 200 years back on this ancient site, where sea travelers along the South China Sea will stop by to give thanks to the God after safely sailing across the Sea back and forth. It has undergone a major renovation since; the last time I have been here was a decade ago. Yeah, maybe more than a decade ago :)

Many people were thronging in and out of the temple
as it was Chinese New Year at this time.
Every new year, people come here
to pay their respect to God and Deities;
asking for abundance of blessing and prosperity.
Climbing up the stairs had been a setback,
as it was crowded and packed.
Not too high, approximately about 100 steps,
you will reach the Temple Complex.

Ching Shan Temple is guarding and overlooking over South China Sea.
After years, this sea route is still as busy as before.
Ships and boats are sailing; cargo transportation, fishing and trading.
Love the serene view here;
if only the weather was fine and not cloudy on that day,
it would be superb to take pictures with the
South China Sea as backdrop ...

Ms Chong's house ...

Without realizing, the curtains for Chinese New Year 2010 will be labored to draw a close tomorrow where the Chinese will celebrate the end of Spring, also known as Chap Goh Mei. Many houses I had visited, but, this particular house is where I reminisce all the old good sweet memory in high school, yeah, proud to be a Thomian; my beloved St Thomas School! See, even my teacher, Miss Chong is still wearing Thomian uniform even though she is no longer working in St Thomas. Miss Chong has been an influential person in my life. She has taught me well for the 4 years I had with her in Prefectorial Board. She has groomed and molded me into who I am today. Part of my self-development and career path are shared with Miss Chong; her motivation, her encouragement and her advice have been my treasures to explore the new world after high school. Thanks you Miss Chong ...

We have made a promise to gather at Miss Chong's house once a year, that is during each Chinese New Year. This is the time where everyone get along together under one room; those who study aboard will return home to meet with old friends. Every year, we will share our own story with Miss Chong, nevertheless, she loves to hear our story because everyone has different experience to tell. We cherish the time we had together, our laughter, our joy and our cry; they are all priceless!

Lion Dance in the Neighbourhood

Today is the 12th day of Chinese New Year according to the Lunar Calendar. In the split of time, Chinese New Year of 2010 is coming to an end. Flashing back, it was as if yesterday when I actually packed my bag; preparing to fly back to Kuching for CNY, and now, I am back here in Subang to continue my practical. Wow, happy moments really passed so soon ... Indeed, this year CNY for me is a boom! I have been enjoying every moment of them; the food, the people, the fun, the laughter and the gatherings. Haha :) Just to re-cap, on the 3rd day of CNY, my best friend, Chung Ann threw an open house with Lion Dance show. Being my bestie, of course, I will attend to his house. Free camera-man for him, what's else can he says 'bout me, yeah? Anyway, thanks for the lunch treat. It was awesome food!

Chinese New Year! The Year of Golden Tiger kicks off with bright start; firecrackers and fireworks highlight the skyline; greeting every Chinese around the world, "Gong Xi Fatt Chai, Xin Nian Kuai Le!" This year has been so much fun particularly as I have longer holiday compares to previous year where my holiday for CNY was just merely 3days, instead, I have 1 week off - no books, no assessment kits, no exams; more fun, more joy, more holiday, more food, more beer! Ooppss ... :) Oh well, less writing this time around yeah? Ok ...

CNY Reunion Dinner 2010

As the Year of Golden Tiger kicks off with colorful firecrackers and fireworks blasts into the sky in the mid of the night, sharp at 0000 hours, the Chinese around the world wish the family and relatives a happy prosperous Chinese New Year, Gong Xi Fatt Chai. The grand event before the Chinese New Year has to be the Reunion Dinner (Tuan Yuen), where every family member from far and near will come home for a get-together dinner with their loved ones. This year, my family and I are well-set and prepare for the dinner since early in the morning of New Year's eve. Apparently, Grandma will be joining us for dinner this year, since she is currently staying with us at the moment ... :)

then deep-fried to golden crispy color ...

shopping malls for last minute buy.

Happy Thaipusam

Didn't make it a trip to Batu Caves this year, anyway. Haha ...)

Today is Thaipusam holiday; a day for all Hindu around the world to call for an obligation, to convey the prayers whole-hearty to their God and to offer peace and blessing to both friends and family. Thaipusam is celebrated, usually on the month of January/February to commemorate the birth of Lord Murugan, as well as the significant event of where Parvati gave Murugan a vel (spear) so that he could fight the evil Soorapadman. There will be a massive parade in Batu Caves. Thousands of Hindus devotees will throng the Holy Temples as early as in the morning. Street parade with devotees carrying kavadis, food fair and multiple cultural performance will be the main attractions to watch. Weee :)

Corner Talk: Was watching BWF Malaysia Proton Super Series 2010 live on television this afternoon. Malaysia, as usual, the only persons who can keep the banner flying high are still none other than Lee Chong Wei and our men's double starlets, Koo Kin Kiat and Tan Boon Heong. Lee Chong Wei will be action against Thailand's Boonsak Ponsana while Kin Kiat and Boon Heong will be up against Chinese's pairs, Guo Zhengdong and Xu Chen in the final tomorrow. Wish them all the best! Do us proud in our home soil ... Tune into your television tomorrow afternoon, support them ya ... :)

Corner Talk: Went out with Nicholas to watch ManUtd's game versus Burnley just now. It was overall an exciting game with ManUtd dominated the game for most of the 90 minutes. The down point was the lack of defense by ManUtd as Burnley occasionally launched counter-attacks that could vulnerably ruin out ManUtd's victory in home soil. Van der Sar and Nani are back to the squad, notably Nani as he is able to provide crosses to the strike force. It seems ManUtd has lose part of its attacking force, as, many chances were blown off with ball ended elsewhere but not behind the net. Corner Talk: At the moment, I am having short courses in class; Basic ETOPS had just completed last week. Coming up, there are: Fuel Tank Safety, Radio Telephony, Aircraft Towing Procedure, FAR 145 Awareness and Company Procedures. Have been preparing for my Oral Assessment for the next few weeks to come. Have to catch up for the lost time due to New Year holiday. Oh yeah, something shocking just occurred in the neighborhood. Few churches in Klang Valley had been burnt down to ground by a group of extremists who strongly oppose the use of word "A l l a h" in churches. The hot issue is yet to cooled down, hope no one is injured. We should be looking into ourselves; is this a way of life for Malaysia? So, what are the differences with Malaysian as compares to group of terror? So called 1 Malaysia? It is time to reconcile the stand into practice ...

A decade has passed through since the days of Millennium@Y2K. The day of 1st January 2010 hits the bell around the world with people of all walk of life are looking forward to a better year; more prosperous, more success and more happiness. To begin, The Journals would like to wish every reader a "Happy New Year 2010!" As for this post, I would like to recall back what's the happening last year as we drew close the curtain of 2009. Year 2009 Hari Raya was crazy.
We went for a Raya's convoy by visiting 7 houses in 18 cars altogether.
Distance travelled was close to 250km covering areas
particularly in Sepang and Nilai.
Food was delicious and tasty,
thanks to the warm welcome by hosts
of our fellow colleagues :)

We soared high in the sky with their fascinating
yet exhilarating airshow by F-16 Hornets Thunderbirds
from the USAF in the month of October.
We were indeed very lucky to have the
best VIP site for the airshow
- what to ask more if you were just in front of the aircraft itself.
Great show, great performance,
definitely it is a boomz!

I have also moved to new place now;
no longer staying in Kelana Jaya,
but to a different area in Shah Alam.
Located about 15 minutes drive to Subang Airport,
it is somehow rather the same distance from my old place.
I am now residing in Shah Alam Section U5 with
my housemate, Wei Liang from Penang.

Basic training in METC has been completed with the end of
Category B2: Avionics courses in the month of November 2009.
13 modules altogether were held in the bag,
thanks to God's blessing, I managed to overcome all of them.
2 years of full structured On-Job Training (OJT)
will continue in MAS Engineering & Maintenance
alongside Type Courses.

My batch mates (TAME 71B2) and I
are given the opportunity to do B737-800 Type.
Woah, it will be a new challenge for all of us.
This B737-800 is a new variant of New Generation (NG) aircraft.
MAS has recently bought about 38 of this aircraft;
currently there are 2 in operation,
the rest will be delivered soon by the year of 2010 October.
Indeed, I was glad to be selected for this type;
B737 is just the right stepping stone to start familiarize
with complicated aircraft's systems.

Bought new lens, an Konica Minolta 50mm Prime Len
and a Cybertik DF MZ45 Flashgun to add to my Sony Alpha 200.
Year of 2009 was not so much of photography
due to hectic schedule, but, nevertheless,
there are still some pictures to show off with ...

With KM 50mm, the depth of field is so tempting!
Sharpness is never a down point with this prime lens.
This prime lens has the ability to go as low as F1.7,
suitable for low-light condition.
Haha :)

December 2009 was the month of festive season and holidays.
Most of the public holiday fell on Friday,
hence, we had decided to head down for a road trip to
Malacca, the Historical Town.
Located to the southern side of Peninsular Malaysia,
148km from Kuala Lumpur,
the drive took us a total of 2 hours.
Malacca Town has been listed as
UNESCO World Heritage Site since 7th July 2008.
No actual purpose for this trip;
we just wanna to get loose ourselves after
completing our examinations in college,
yes, it is free-and-easy, relax-and-cool trip.
Haha :)
Local food and delicacies were of course in our target list;
Durian Cendol, Coconut Ice Blended,
Hainan Chicken Rice Ball and Satay Celup Lok-Lok
were all checked and done!
Your trufully was standing in front of the Maritime Museum,
the replica of Frol de La Mar Ship.

Walking into the year 2010,
let's all pray for the best of year to come ...

New Year 2010 is blasting on ...

Corner Talk: Three weeks has passed after working in Line 10 with B777-200 from Middle East. No joke, but true, I have been tying the typical "clovehitch knot" on the aircraft's cables for the last five days ranging from big power cable to tiny little wire, long to short ... Spread the wire long, arrange them in bundles properly, put their markings and then, tie them up using the tough polyester lacing chords. Up till this afternoon, I managed to finish all of them. Phew, finally ... Huge satisfaction. This aircraft is going for IFE modification, so, all the old cables will need to be replaced with new ones. Hehe :) Everyday is a learning process, I would say to sum up my experience in Line 10. Haha :)

Christmas Movie Marathon

Christmas isn't more about opening the presents under the Christmas tree. For me, it was to catch up with the biggest blockbuster movies of the year; the most sought after show, the most anticipated display on the big screen ... Forget 'bout Transformer 2: ROTF and G.I Joe! Yup, it is Avatar alongside Bodyguards and Assassins that steal the headline to sum up the year 2009. Two shows in two days, watched them with my buddies ... Cool :)

Rumors had said this movie took a total of 15 years to produce. Due to lack of technology years back, the production of Avatar was postponed until today. The storyline is simple, straight forward. Each character has its role of its own, well-defined with clear purposes. The plot of the story is an amazement, led by hero Jack Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana). Overall, it is a great movie to watch filled with awesome graphics and animation and actions packed. I suppose to watch Avatar's 3D, but then, the cineplex was so congested that I had to settle with normal Avatar. Oh well ... Still worth a word, man! 3 hours long show, woah ...

Rating: 9/10

Named as Shi Yue Wei Cheng (The Bodyguards and Assassins) centers around the fight for revolution in imperialism China. Set during the last period of Qing Dynasty (1900-an), a group of revolutionists with the inspiration of Dr Sun Yat Seng (Sun Wen) fought to topple the weak Qing Dynasty in order to form a new democracy government, thus, re-witting a new piece of history. Plenty of main characters involve include Donnie Yen (The Gambler/Policeman), Leon Lai (The Beggar), Tony Leung Ka Fai (The Editor) and Nicholas Tse (Ah Si). If you are a fan of kick-the-ass action with cool stunts and extreme martial arts skills, here it is, this movie is a must watch! Don't be surprised to see blood flowing out, splashing apart as if the blood of fountain. Bruises and cut, blood and scars, kill and survive, politic assassinations and spirit of nationalism were themes for this movie. Good show ... At least, it serves to remind us of the hardship and sacrifices of all the nationalists who fight for human rights and the formation of new political system in a country. Close to 3 hours show also, nevertheless, it is another thumb-up movie!

Rating: 8/10

So, what 'ya waiting for?

Corner Talk: Third week in MAS will begin tomorrow as we all are sent down to the floor. I will be assigned to Line 11 Hangar 4 for B737-400 aircraft. Last hangar, so far and isolated from others. Tools box, torch-light and uniforms are all set, let's get rock and rumble ... This coming Tuesday, I will be having my second assessment oral with Hj Khairudin for another 3 sets of tasks. My target will be finishing all the assessments by first quarter of next year 2010. Gonna work hard for license in hands soon ... Malacca's road trip was fun, with everyone was having an awesome time with laughter and joy. Food, food and more food for the whole day. Pictures will be uploaded once I got them from my friends ... Haha :)

A new chapter in Journals ...

Corner Talk: Yesterday, took a break from hectic schedule of training (just an excuse to myself) to go all the way down to KLCC for PIKOM KL PC Fair 2009. Well, my intention is to buy the Broadband Wireless Router together with my housemate,Wei Liang. So, here we go, took the LRT from Taman Bahagia to KLCC. Thanks to Hing for his ride. LRT was packed as if sardine can. Upon arrival, there were tonnes of people rushing into the convention centre. Cameras and DSLR were hanging on boys' neck. Short skirts, V-Shape, skinny models, hot chicks, woah ... My eyes just cant stop searching for new targets. Ok, I must admit, these tricks behind all the mimic of advertising has been exploiting the power of "FEMALE". Why not? A pretty chick with sexy body approaches you, and up, you are hooked to their stall for good. Even I am tempted to get a Sony MP3 when this girl approached me with a soft and melodic voice. She just melted me away .. Haha :) More pictures to be reviewd soon ... Meanwhile, sit back and be patience!

Last week, was our last day in college; it was somehow, a place where all things were started. From zero, we become someone, form nothing, we become equipped ... Nevertheless, it was all the efforts from our fellow instructors. We have learned, and will still continue learning in new environment; the actual floor in MAS Complex A. We foresee a great obstacle ahead, and we shall cruise together across the ferocious sea ...

Kek Lapis Sarawak

Corner Talk: Early in the morning, I went for renewing of my travel passport in the Immigration Office. Didn't know that they require photocopy of IC and two Passport-sized colour photos as parts of the requirement. Ended up photocopying my IC for a bloody 40 cent for a piece of white paper, RM10 for 4 pieces of lousy photos, causing my face to become so pale because of the direct flash they used, bought a blue color ball pen for Rm1.40. Damn!! What the heck!! These people just have their ways of monopolizing all the desperate people like me to blood-suck our money ... T.T Lesson to learn: Get ready all your papers before doing any submission, or else, the officers over there will screw you up with no mercy. Queue was long, had to endure the patience to wait for over 30 people before reaching my turn. So co-incidentally, I bumped into a person who I have not met seen for long time. Have a good time chatting with Silky Pink, catching up with each other, kept each other accompanying till my turn. Thanks girl :)

My colleagues from West Malaysia are so excited every time they know I am heading back home town, not because they are happy on behalf of me that I am going home, but, they are more concerned about the long-saught after Kek Lapis Sarawak. Till now, I can't figure out what is so delicious about this delicacies. For our locals, Kek Lapis is just a normal "kek" with arrays of colours stripes ... Taste wise, yummy yummy except some people prefer it to be sweeter. Eeeh ;)

Corner Talk: Module 13: Aircraft's Avionic System Final Examination has just concluded last Friday; officially signified the completion of Category B2 Programme in college. Overall, I am happy with my performance, even though there is always room for improvement. Up next, I will work on my Assessment Kit, for my Licensing requirement. After relative 2 months of revision, I has decided to go 'OFF' mode for 3 days before switching back my engines for another new term of tasks. Year end is coming again; while most of my friends will be heading for a Christmas' holiday, my batchmates and I will be reporting to MAS Engineering & Maintenance on the 1st December 2009. Woah :)

When you believe ...

Exam is just around the corner, with exactly 7 days to go ... My day has been filled with hours with modules and books, 7 hours of sleep and remaining hours for meal and wash room. Online-ing has been really limited, what to say, to sit down and post up a blog will be hardly. This exam stress somehow reminds me of how I was to sit for SPM five years ago; 10 subjects to revise, books were all over the study table ... That's what I am having now too. 10 subjects together under Module 13: Aircraft's Systems; just to name a few, Radio, IFE, Instruments and OBMS.

Last Wednesday, I went for my Assessment Kit Oral Session with the assessor; basically, we will be interviewed up and down, from deep to surface basic about the task that we have carried out. Most importantly, these interviews will be a requiste and form part of our licensing's requirement. There are altogether 50++ tasks to be interviewd, and yes, I have completed 2 of them. Yeah :) Plan to submit few more after Module 13 Exams. My target is to finish them off by February 2010. Hopefully :) Gonna strive harder, go go go ...

My mind is kept playing this song now, a very classic duet by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. Yup, it is a song entitles, "When You Believe", taken from the audio soundtrack of Prince of Egypt. ' ... there can be miracles, when you believe, though hope is frail, is hard to kill ... ' Come and sing-a-long with me, haha :)

I am moving house, for your information; actually things come up at not so quite an appropriate time, especially with final examination of Module 13 is just around the corner. I apologize for updating very few on The Journals. I guess, I have to switch to "Exam" Mode soon. With barely enough time to swallow all 5 thick books for Module 13, I will need to fully utilize my time for revision, rest and leisure. Keith needs boost of inspiration now ...

Corner Talk: Had a quiet weekend mostly spent with my Module 13.5 Electrical Power; revision is on-going with so much of notes to cover, Instruments, Autopilots and Radios, just to name a few. Final module to go before completing theoretical training in college; some of my friends have alredy start counting down days to OJT. Oh my ... I need a peace for revision now; I need more motivation and discipline to keep the ball rolling. Really ... This is serious!

The Hindus around the world celebrated "Deepavali" aka The Festival of Light on the 17th of October 2009. Deepavali, sometimes known as Diwali is celebrated as a symbol of triumph of good over the devil within an individual. The Hindus community in college spent us "Muruku", a special delicacy snack made of rice flour and spices flavourings. Yum, yum ... Thanks you, Nantha, Dharshunu and Vicky for the "Muruku" ...

14th October,

Mood in college was gloomy, even though activity was carried out as per normal; everyone was rather reluctant to bid farewell to best instructor, Mr Au Ting Ling who was on his last day of duty as Training Manager. Despite his growing age, he shows no sign of tiredness, yet, still going strong together with us. He has been our best friend, our best instructor and best mentor. He takes care of our well-being and welfare as if our second father. His advices are still ringing in our ears. His favourite words, " ... You fella ... " and " ... you must be joking! ... " have never been forgotten. When all these come across our mind, without realizing, we will laugh softly in our heart, at the same time, tears dripping warmly from our eyes. We were indeed missing Mr Au. His presence has enlightened our training in college, we laugh and joke, we sit and have coffee together; all these will become another piece of memory that we will keep with us along the journey ...

At 630pm, before he left the college, he waved goodbye to everyone of us. Again, he reminded us, "Next time I see you all, make sure, you come with a 3 golden bars on your shoulders!", putting his 3 fingers on his shoulder showing us the sign... Yes, we will do it! We will remember your challenge!

A weekend in October

Corner Talk: I must admit that I am living in the in the shadow of science and technology revolutionary age. Why not? Days without constant Internet connection is a torture, and of course, updating blogs for me has been an obstacle. Facebook-ing is also parts of my routine, and till now, I have no idea why there are so many human getting addicted to Facebook, including me. Currently, I am doing Module 13.4 Radio, super-duper tough subject to learn, need lotsa imagination and patience to understand the concept. Sometime, my head just blown off after a whole day of class, back home, my bed has been my best companion. Haha :) At the same time, I am also working on a "Big Project" for college. Will update you all with more details once things are finalized. Besides, I am looking for house to move, otherwise, I think I will be staying under the bridge! Still deciding whether to rent a house or just a single room! Sigh ... ~ Pressure is mounting high ~

Last week, I was telling you all that I will be going to the USAF Thunderbirds Airshow in Subang Airport. Here the photo ... Actually, there are still plenty of photos, but, then, I think it is best to reserve for next post (not sure when, but soon as I have the time) so that I can cover them in more lengthy. I was actually stucked in the traffic congestion upon arrival, and luckily, we have Subang Airport passes to gain access to airfield area; trust me, we have the best spot to see the airshow, better than those VVIP seating. Lolz :)

Corner Talk: First week back in college was pretty busy with plenty of pending stuffs to get them done. Proccessed tons of documents for On-Job Training (OJT) in Malaysia Airlines Engineering and Maintenace (E&M) during December. Finally, after three years of waiting, finally, I got my Staff ID with its number. Woah ... It is just overwhelming! Module 13.10, On-Board Maintenance System (OBMS) had completed within two days, and now, currently, doing Module 13.6 In-Flight Entertainement System (IFE). Trust me, IFE seems to be a simple system, but, it has proven me 180 degrees wrong! IFE is tough, I had a headache; figuring how the digital audio is transferred from the audio player along the line down to your screen in front of your aircraft's seat. It took me merely two hours to get rip of it ... ~ KeithK is starting to love IFE ~

Berbuka Puasa in D'Tandoor Subang

The "Berbuka Puasa" session with fellow colleagues in college has been on our calendar every year. This year, we decided to go for Indian Cuisine at D'Tandoor Restaurant, Subang. Food are variety, not too much, not too little of choices, but, one thing, the restaurant staff take an easy long routine to re-fill the finished food. Other than that, everything is fine!

Sitting in Galley with Cabin Crews

Hari Raya's break in college officially starts today, with most of my colleagues are heading their hometown to celebrate this eventful celebration with friends and family. Same goes to me, and as usual, I am hoping into aircraft with Jump Seat again ... Surprisingly, thing comes out unexpectedly this time with many sweet and sour spices added in it, Why, you will know later?

See my ticket? It is of a special kind,
without seat number for flight MH 2564,
from KUL-KCH. It is printed with JMP for Jump Seat.
Boarding time is 0935 hours,
and flight will take off at 1005 hours.
I recalled,
it was a B737-400 aircraft with a registration of 9M-MMI

To get this boarding pass will lay down
another series of story. I had earlier on
missed out 3 flights before I could get this seat.
First, there were already 2 person who booked for
the jump seat for MH 2532 (2050 hours on Wednesday's night)
Then, I was denied the jump seat application for MH 2534
(2200 hours on Wednesday's night), because
of the faulty crew oxygen system in the cockpit.
I ended up slept for overnight in KLIA,
believe me, KLIA is super chilling as cold as Arctics
at night ...
The next morning, I tried again for flight MH 2504 Jump Seat,
unfortunately, these jump seats were booked earlier
by two flight crews who wanted to fly back to KCH as well.
The Captain for MH 2504, Cpt Abbas was kind enough
to assist me by giving a call to Cpt Morhamidi,
who will be piloting flight MH 2564,
otherwise, I think I would be stranded
in KLIA again ...

Initially, I thought it will be just a typical
jump seat in the cockpit, oh well, yeah :)
However, I was then placed to sit in here ...

The galley is similar to kitchen in household terminology,
where the steward and stewardess will prepare your meal
on board; hot-plate meal, drinks, etc ...
I was more than excited and surprised,
another new chapter of experience to be recorded into
The Journals ...
The reason why I was placed to sit into galley
crews' seat was because there was a new cadet pilot
inside the cockpit who was at the time concerned,
having his assessment session with Cpt Morhamidi,
for that, I was disallowed entrance to cockpit.
Lolz :)

Inside the galley, I had an overview on
how the cabin crews work to prepare our meal.
They are far more efficient and professional
considering the time pressure they have to endure,
needless to say,
they have to sweat under difficult environment;
the rocky and bumpy flight, and the congested limiting gally area.
Get to know new friends,
steward Mr Saravanan and Mr Aidil.
They were so generous in feeding me with food, food and food ...
I had 2 meals instead of one,
one nasi lemak and one French Cheese Omelet
from Business Class's meal,
free-flow of drinks/juice ...
Haha :)

These were gifts from Miss Stewardess, S u s a n i e;
a very sweet lady who has friendly and warmest smile
that you can get from every Malaysia Airlines' cabin crew.
One word to describe - MH ... Malaysian Hospitality!
Their slogan - We treat everyone on board as guest!

You are just so lovely!

An event was organized in Changi International Airport, Singapore in conjunction with the Singapore GT 2009, of course this most awaited race was the main attraction. Based on the calculation, it is undeniable that the Porsche 911 GT3 will win the race, considering its maximum speed can reach up to 190 mph, in contrast of B747 of 184 mph at take off configuration withs flaps lowered down at certain angle. However, based on a single race, we can hardly judge the winner, as the take-off speed of the aircraft is largely dependant on the weather condition of the day. Let's say: On a dry day with high humidity, the aircraft will require a shorter runway for take-off, hence, achieving lower take-off as compares to a wet day. The result could be different if the race is repeated on a different conditions. At the same time, this Jumbo Jet B747 is operated by JAL Cargo Japan, so you expect this heavy aeroplane to overcome its huge inertia to accelerate that fast? No, right? Nevertheless, it does answer some question marks on your head, yeah?

The wind outside was blowing chill, as cold as it can be felt deep down into the spine. On reaching the college door front, I bumped into my Instructor, Mr Edward. He was denied entry by the MAB Security Officer, since he has left his pass at home. With the only solution, I accompanied him to Terminal 3 to obtain for a temporary pass. Woah, lesson to learn here: MAB Security Officer will only recognise Pass and not FACES! Even you meet the same MAB officer everyday. Yeah, everyday ...

Nothing was memorable as I was reporting for duty over to MAS Engineering and Training Department in Complex A. We had a day long briefing with Training School Controller, Mr Baharuddin and Senior Engineering Training Executive, Mr Azhar, followed by filling of all the necessary forms for Staff ID processing. Hmmm, I was grouped into 23 trainees, comprising of Avionics trade; named TAME Batch 69. No new faces for me, as all of the members were my classmates in college - we are special, the one and only Avionics class from METC. Yeah, I am proud to be one of them - Avionics rocks! Tomorrow, there will be another briefing by HR Department -.-"

Days in college will be coming to 4th year soon, this coming 16th September will be the 4th anniversary. Haha. My mind is wandering away, looking back, flashing though time and space dimension - recalling how much have I learned and matured along the way :)

Corner Talk: Monday's Blue, anyone? What I mean is not referring to our laziness to get the week rolling, but, more towards the weather that I had in Subang here this morning. While having practical on aircraft in college, I realized the sky this morning was exceptionally BLUE. Yeah, so BLUE that my buddy, Ewin (Expert Blue Sky Analyzer) told me that this kind of sky is almost impossible to be seen in KL; it could be only possible in places such as Maldives and, or maybe in Pulau Langkawi. Haha ... Well, will show you the photos we captured, and seriously, the sky is so BLUE. I ~ heart ~ blue sky!

Just came back from watching Manchester United's away game versus Wigan Athletic in JJB Stadium. First half of the match was a dull one, full of frustrations as Manchester United wasted dozens of chances to lead in front of the goal mouth. Wigan's goalie, Chris Kirkland and his teams of defenders were the culprits to deny the Red Devils from scoring. The match ended by half time with a bored stalemate ...

My personal favourite goal of the night - Michael Owen's

Sir Alex Ferguson must be injecting dose of motivation and words of wisdom inside the dressing room during the interval, and scenerio had changed tremendously after that. Minutes after the kick off, Wayne Rooney headed in into the top left corner after feeding a cross from former Wigan's boy, Antonia Valencia. Huge relief for both players and fans; 1-0 prooved to be priceless after the disappointment defeat by Burnley in the midweek. Two minutes later, Dmitar Berbatov strolled in another goal to ease off the pressure, marking his first goal of the season. Rooney was once again the hero when he shot low to give Manchester United a comfortable lead, 3 goals to nil. Rooney was taken out and replaced with Michael Owen; he was greeted with thousands of standing ovations as he left the field. Super-sub, Owen chipped in past Chris Kirkland to make it 4-0. Finally, Nani wrapped up the three points with a sensational Ronaldo's free kick outside the penalty box to earn Manchester United a well deserved truimph with 5 goals to nil ... Woah, I am totally excited right now! Haha :)

I have long abandoned The Journals, and, this will be a great time to catch up and update on what's on ups and downs. Both of them delivered convincingly

River Flows in You

Weather has been quite extreme and harsh recently, with burning scothing sun and haze enveloped the city. Needless to say, the H1N1 pandemic has taken a total of 18 lifes up till today. So, ladies and gentlemen, beware! Wear protective mouth cover if there is a need. Better to be safe than sorry, isn't it?

This morning, I just sat for IELS-Equivalent Exams in college. Out of the three papers, Listening was the "killer". It caught me this time. I had some difficulties in picking up the audio recording. I really hope I can get through the exams. Again, dear fellow friends, please include me in your prayers at night.

Module 14 Propulsion kicked off last Monday, directly after Module 7 Exams. As a short two week comprehensive course, Module 14 Exam is scheduled to be on the 14th August. If you recalled in my previous posts, I had just completed Module 6 and 7, and yes, the results were released last week. I was indeed grateful and relieved with the outcomes. Hurray ... :)

While browsing through my friend's blog, Sharon, I came across this wonderful instrumental song entitled, River Flows in You by Yiruma. If you listen carefully, you will realise this song has quite a similirity with the theme song played in the famous romance movie, Twilight. However, bear in mind, this isn't the song from Twilight, it is purely composed by this talented musician, Yiruma. Yeah, Bella and Edward are driving people out crazy. I am really looking forward to Twilight 2: New Moon. To note that, this song is kept playing in my head, over and over again. So Sharon, if you read this, I really wanna thank you for such a wonderful song. You "sprinkle sugar" on my day ... :)

If you have been following my blog lately, you should realize that my time for blogging is countable and equally limited. On average, I have just managed to blog once per week. Yet, I have to admit the contents of The Journals are getting dull and dry, not to say, I have lost my inspiration to write, but, somehow, I am not into the days of blogging as before. Hopefully, I can pick up the pace to write something more interesting in future. -.-"

Sad to say, Alpha 200 is becoming unique now, heard that SoNy has stopped production of this kind; it will be replaced by the new Alpha 230 that comes with kit lens 1855mm F/3.5-5.6. McValue Lunch

Last Friday, during the Muslim's prayer, we had a long 3 hours lunch break. Without much planning, we decided to go outside for lunch. Our first stop was in the all-time famous, house-hold icon; the Big M - McDonald. Since it was lunch hour, we were entitled for the McValue Lunch Set for all the menus. Woah ... :)

VOR Navigation

It had been quite some times back then when I was doing my aircraft's practical. Yesterday, while the rest of my colleagues were having their IELS English Exams, some of us were dispatched to the floor to do the practical. We were told to remove and re-install back the VOR antenna on the Cessna 172.

College has bought an unused Cessna 172
from a flying club last month.
Although, it was left unused for a period of time,
nevertheless, it is still serviceable after all the
necessary maintenance work have been performed on it ...

The VOR antenna resembles the shape of V
which is fitted at the vertical stabilizer of the Cessna 172.
So, you may ask what is VOR?

VOR is an acronym for Very High Frequency (VHF) Omni-Directional Radio Range. Generally, VOR serves as a source of navigation aid to the aircraft, just as if, a "sign board" on roads. VOR Navigation provides a reliable line from the VOR station which can be selected and followed by the pilots. VOR operates in the region of VHF from 108 MHz to 117.95 MHz. The signal received from the VOR station will contain the VOR Station identifier code and the location signal.

Then, you may ask, what so good about VOR Navigation? Indeed, VOR Nav will suffer little intervention from the thunderstorm and less "course-bending" around the coastlines and earth terrains. As the nature of law says, "Every good, there is bad! " Same applies to the VOR. The disadvantage of VOR is that it depends on the "line of sight" - If the transmitting antenna could not seen on a perfect clear way from the receiving antenna, the useful signal cannot be received. In short, if the VOR antenna on the aircraft cannot "see" the VOR station on ground, then, the NAV signal will serve no purpose.

The signal is transmitted in all direction,
360 degrees all around.
It is hence called "Omni-Directional".
How it works?
Basically, two signals are transmitted by this station;
the reference phase signal and the rotating phase signal.
These two signals are essential to decode the
location and direction of the VOR station.
The signals received by the aircraft will be
processed and computed to determine the phase angle,
by which, the phase angle will equal to the direction from the station
to the aircraft in degrees with
reference to Magnetic North.
Some VOR station may have the
Distance Measuring Equipment (DME)
which provides the slant distance
of the aircraft to the VOR station ...

An overview of the VOR Station in aiding the aircraft navigation ...
An indicator, known as Horizontal Situational Indicator (HSI)
in cockpit is used to indicate the aircraft's bearing
with respect to the VOR station on ground.
To use the VOR station,
the pilots will need to tune the frequency of that station
based on the Aeronautical Chart.
However, as Science and Technology is playing prominent role in aviation,
the use of VOR is soon to be exiled.
The Global Positional System (GPS) is now taking over the
modern navigation on board of the aircraft.

Three examination results in total were announced this week alone by college. Overall, I am quite happy and satisfied with the outcome. Here's what I get ...

Paper 2 - 96%
Module 10: Aviation Legislation
Paper 1 - 95%
Paper 2 - 90%

I am really thankful and grateful with God's blessing, and of course, instructors and fellow colleagues for helping out with discussion and sharing. Now, with third year in college is progressing, there are still 4 more modules to be completed; Module 6,7, 13 and 14. Currently, am doing Module 13: Aircraft's Systems; this is a big and lengthy module which is expected to complete by July. By the way, my college will be getting an Approved Training Organization from DCA. Congratulations ... (",)

Semester 2 Third Year in College begins ...

A week holiday is KCH came to an end with my early morning trip back to Subang. Flights from KCH-KUL were extremely congested, my Dad told me it was overbooked days before the actual flight. As usual, jump seat is the only solution. Thanks to Uncle Liow for applying my jump seat.

I took the earliest flight, MH 2547 at 0600 hours in the morning. Captain of the flight was kind and great, as, he finally decided to upgrade me to Business Class seat instead of the crampy jump seat. I was more than delighted, what else, comfory and large leg space, with soft cushion, it is indeed an ideal place to sleep and rest myself early in the morning. Thanks you, Mr Captain and Leading Stewardess, Miss Pei Ling for your kind assistance. Took some pictures, but, I must apologize for the quality of the pictures. They weren't taken with my Alpha, but, using a Rm1600 ++ handphone - The Samsung Omnia. Very cool handphone, with GPS function. Camera 5 Megapixels. Woah ... Cool gadget!! Let's the pictures do the talking ...

Early in the morning, went to bank to sort out my BSN account,
then, proceeded to buy the "Laksa Sarawak Rempah" for a friend,
going to hand over to him when I return to KL on Sunday.
Flights are quite packed, Dad told me this morning,
as a result I will have to board into the earliest morning flight,
schedule to be on 6am ...

Hmmm, in a flash of time,
one week holiday seems to be just yesterday,
it is coming to an end soon ...
So fast, isn't it?

Duan Wu Jia ... Eat Zhong Zhi

Last Friday was Chinese Dumpling festival, or better known as DuanWu Jia. The event falls on the fifth day of the fifth month in the Chinese Lunar calendar. The history of DuanWu Jia celebration can be recalled here ... The ZhongZhi usually comes in the shape of triangular cone shaped consists of minced meat and chopped vegetables wrapped into the glutinous rice dumpling. Some people may add chicken, chestnuts, cooked peanuts, black mushrooms, shrimp or red bean paste so on and forth.

Mum didn't make Zhong Zhi this year.
We opted to buy outside instead,
prices of good has increased significantly over the last few years,
so does the Zhong Zhi ...
Few years back, we can get a piece of
Zhong Zhi with Rm1.20,
but now,
you can only get an ordinary sized with Rm1.80.
More shocking, Klang sells for a
piece of Zhong Zhi worth of Rm5.00
Oh my, I bet myself to spend
Rm5.00 for that :)

My sis likes to eat Zhong Zhi with sweet chili sauce,
but, not me ...
Feel like eatiing one?
Walk down to nearby kopitiam
and order a Loh Mai Kai,
an almost equivalent to Zhong Zhi ...

Went out yesterday for a model photoshooting
session, overall,
it was a fruitful products ...

The highly-overrated Manchester United did not portray good football works, but, was most of the time, overshadowed by the more creative and skillful Barcelona players in the names of Samuel Eto'o, Lionel Messi, Thiery Henry, Xavi and Ineista. The journey thus far to Rome came to an end with empty-handed; unable to retain the UEFA Champions Leagues Trophy as what had had happened to all the previous winner. This curse has never stopped haunted even now ... All in all, at least, Manchester United has 3 titles under their belts for the 2008-2009 season - League Cup, World Club Cup and EPL Premier Leagues Champion. Still, the flame has never stopped burning in Sir Alex; we will continue chanting, " Glory ManUtd, Glory!!! " ...

College 1st Semester break is on the brink now, as soon as our Module 5 Digital Technique Category B2 came to an end. The burden over our shoulders was dropped, at least for this coming one week before everyone resumes their normal routine. People from far are heading back their hometown with a wish to pair up with their loved one, and I, will be flying back to Kuching tomorrow. A little re-cap on this term first semester activities with pictures from here and there ... Enjoy :)
